Arroyo Del Oso Elementary School
Albuquerque, NM

This corridor outside of the current library was once an outside area that kids ran and tracked dirt through the school.
Now it is perfectly daylit without the need for artificial light and saves electricity. This picture was taken in winter, on an overcast, snowy day and still provided 35 foot candles throughout the corridor that would normally be a darker area (see background hallway artificially lit with a low 18 average foot candles and USING electricity.
This is a simple shed roof with an 8% light transmission and a āUā-factor of only a 0.18.

The library (above) remained at a positive 45 foot candles at task level and maintained a quality learning environment without the need for electricity and artificial lighting on the same overcast winter day.
